Hack UCL: Student Life Edition

Date & Time: 28 NOVEMBER 6PM - 9PM

Participants are encouraged to think about specific areas where student life could be enhanced. The focus can be on anything from physical spaces, academic support, mental health, or social activities. Your solution should offer a practical approach to making these improvements, considering different perspectives based on your areas of interests and/or academic background.

Team Formation:

  • Maximum of 2 participants per team.

  • Solo participants are welcome and can be matched with other solo participants if requested.

  1. Submission Guidelines:

    • Each team or individual must present their solution through a 2 - minute pitch.

    • Pitches should clearly outline the problem, the proposed solution, and how it will improve student life at UCL.

  2. Focus Areas (Suggested but not mandatory):

    • Participants are encouraged to consider aspects such as:

      • Cost-Effectiveness: How affordable or scalable is your solution?

      • Feasibility: How realistic is your solution, given UCL’s current resources and the economic and social contexts?

      • Timeliness: How quickly can your solution be implemented?

      • Impact: What specific improvements will your solution bring to student life?

      • Risks: Are there challenges, and how will you address them?

  3. Time Limit:

    • You will have 1 hour to work on your solution and prepare your pitch.

  4. Presentation Guidelines:

    • Teams will be judged on claritycreativityfeasibility, and relevance of their solutions.

    • Ensure your pitch is concise and focused on actionable solutions.

    • Use slides or other visual aids to enhance your presentation (optional).

  5. Judging Criteria:

    • The judges will assess each presentation based on the following criteria:

      • 40% for Pitch Performance: Clarity, confidence, and how well the team communicates their ideas.

      • 60% for Solution: Feasibility, impact, cost-effectiveness, and how well the solution addresses the problem.
